A Mountain Escape Designed by Alina Wolhardt in the Berkshires

As an interior design firm in Boston, we find inspiration in projects that seamlessly blend personal style with nature. Our design for a mountain retreat in the Berkshires is a perfect example. The project began with the renovation of a small, two-bedroom cabin and evolved into a three-story home, built to embrace its serene, wooded surroundings. The homeowners, longtime friends of Alina, were drawn to Scandinavian and Japanese styles, which Alina herself connects with through her Danish and Japanese heritage. This shared cultural influence is evident in the design, with clean lines, minimalist décor, and a focus on creating a peaceful, functional space.

Bringing the Outdoors In

One of the most striking elements of the design is the expansive windows, which maximize the views of the 65-acre property. Whether covered in snow during the winter or lush with greenery in the summer, the home was designed to connect with nature year-round. A show stopping tree sculpture at the entry, made from the original cabin’s slate roof tiles, adds a unique touch to the home’s story.

A Year-Round Retreat

The home, which also features an apple orchard and a lake, offers a perfect retreat for the owners and their loved ones. It’s a space for both relaxation and entertaining, designed to feel like a true escape from the everyday. This project exemplifies how an interior design firm in Boston can help create a home that’s not only functional but deeply connected to its environment and the people who live in it.
